About Meals on Wheels Montgomery County

Our Mission

To provide home delivered meals and transportation services to the homebound elderly in Montgomery County.

Our Vision

A community that feeds every homebound seniors in need.

Our Story

Formerly known as the Friendship Center, our organization was founded in 1973 to meet the growing needs of the aging population. Over time, demand changed and we adapted into what is now Meals on Wheels Montgomery County.

Through the change, one thing never wavered – our dedication to local seniors.

Whether it is from physical limitations, mental complications, or dwindling finances, many seniors become homebound as they age. Daily tasks, such as grocery shopping and preparing meals, become impossible.

Meals on Wheels Montgomery County exists to improve the lives of these homebound seniors. Serving more than 500 people each weekday, we help our aging neighbors remain well nourished, connected to the community, and independent within the comfort of their own home.

By remaining independent, seniors alleviate the stress of caregiving often felt by their family, friends, and neighbors while also avoiding the high costs of nursing home care. In fact, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County delivers an entire year’s worth of meals to one homebound person at a cost lower than one day in a hospital or six days in a nursing home.

With your help, we support our community through the following programs.

Meals on Wheels

More than 50% of seniors who visit emergency rooms arrive malnourished. Senior hunger is one of the most pressing public health problems of our time.

The Meals on Wheels solution is simple yet effective. Warm and nutritious meals, delivered to our aging neighbors, provide the consistent nourishment necessary for seniors to remain healthy and independent. Each meal is delivered with a friendly smile and conversation from our volunteers and staff – it’s the highlight of the day for many of seniors. Meal delivery also serves as a safety check, ensuring each senior is safe in their home.

As the only organization in Montgomery County to offer meal delivery services to those in need, our work is especially critical.

Senior Rides

The ability to drive is a luxury we all take for granted. When we lose this ability, we lose our social life and independence. Seniors Rides – a free curbside transportation service – was developed to eliminate the isolation associated with the inability to drive. From a simple hair cut to a critical doctor’s appointment, our transportation services help seniors and the disabled remain an active part of our community.
