Our Story

More Than a Meal
For more than 50 years, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County has supported senior and veteran neighbors with more than just a meal. Through daily check-ins, friendly connection, and essential nutrition, we help homebound seniors remain healthy, independent, and aging in place with dignity.
Five Decades of Serving Our Community
Meals on Wheels Montgomery County was founded in 1973 to support the growing senior population and adopted the Meals on Wheels name in 2016 to strengthen visibility. Today, we deliver over 340,000 meals each year to homebound seniors and provide more than 21,000 free rides to elderly and disabled adults. Backed by a strong track record, we continue to rely on hundreds of volunteers to meet the rising need and serve our most vulnerable neighbors.
9 out of 10 clients say that Meals on Wheels helps them live independently.

Each month, new seniors are added to the waitlist and demand continues to rise.
- People are living longer
- 40% of baby boomers have no retirement savings
- 12,000 adults are turning 60 every day
As the needs of our seniors grow, so does our commitment to meet them with care and compassion. That’s why we’ve expanded our services beyond daily meals to include thoughtful programs like aniMeals, which delivers pet food to seniors with beloved companions, and Breakfast Bags, which provide shelf-stable meals for added nutrition and peace of mind. These small touches go a long way in helping seniors feel supported, seen, and cared for.
